    Robert James Hutton
(1950 – 1968), also known as "Lil' Bobby", was the treasurer and first recruit to join the Black Panther Party. He was also the first Panther member to be killed by the police. Alongside Eldridge Cleaver and other Panthers, he was involved in a confrontation with the Oakland Police following the assassination of Martin Luther King on April 6, 1968. He was shot multiple time by white officers while surrendering with his hands raised. He was only 17 years old at the time of his death. His funeral drew over 10,000 mourners from across the United States. In death he became a martyr for many disenfranchised African American youth of the 1960's.
